"For instance, a man may go into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and
as he swings his ax to fell a tree, the head may fly off and hit his neighbor
and kill him. That man may flee to one of these cities and save his life."
Deuteronomy 19:5
This is part of a longer elaboration on the commandment "You shall not kill." The humor is in the example proffered here. I'm sure this must be a fairly realistic example of something that happened or very likely could have happened in the ancient world. I can't help imagining, though, that it's a scene from a Warner Brothers cartoon.
Bugs Bunny is chopping wood, and as he swings back to strike the tree, the axhead flies off and smacks ol' Elmer Fudd right in the kisser. KLANK!
Elmer stiffens, and little birdies fly around his bald head.
"Oh! Wook at the cute wittle buhdies!" he says just before he collapses like a felled tree.
