Movies That Never Were (and probably should stay that way!)

CONVERSION OF THE MOLE PEOPLE!

Several years after hearing about the strange subterranean community of Neo-Sumerians and their weird slaves, the mole people, a priest mounts an expedition to see if there are any survivors after the earthquake that closed modern man's last encounter with them--and attempt to convert them!

Fr Jonas Ortega is also an archaeologist, and his reopening of the entrance to the cavernous underworld reveals something shocking. The Mole Creatures are now the ruling species. You see, while only a few years have passed on the surface of the earth, hundreds have gone by underground. (Apparently, when there is no sun, day and night are calculated differently.) As a result, a few of the young mole people who were briefly exposed to the sun's radiation became the parents of children with a ready tolerance to sunlight. Naturally, then, those who could stand the light began wielding their power over all the rest, and the mole people became kings.

Can Fr Ortega bring peace to such a society?

Will he be able to express the Good News of Jesus to them, in a way that they will understand?

Will Nestor Paiva's character miraculously rise from his tomb and become their messiah?

Or will he side with the other race and lead a subterranean revolt?

How much stock footage can you stand?

See for yourself, in CONVERSION OF THE MOLE PEOPLE!

I'd watch it.

Me too, Eegah, if only for the fact that John Agar inexplicably plays the priest, despite having been part of the explorer team in the original film.

I think, in true B-movie fashion, you could re-use most of the original plot (inverting the two classes, of course) and merely tweak the script here and there. Instead of enticing descriptions of the surface world, for instance, there would be enticing descriptions of the new earth.

I think I'll go watch Mole People, now.

I've seen a couple of movies that were (but probably never should have been): "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" and "Ghandi". On second thought, I never actually saw them...I fell asleep trying to watch both (not at the same time, though).

Terry,
check out my review of Santa Claus Conquers The Martians elsewhere on this site. Very spiritual film.

Okay... very dull film. I've fallen asleep during it a few times.

I've never seen Ghandi.

I'd watch Ghandi Conquers The Martians.

I think MST3K did a show on "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" - that was the only time I watched it.

LarryD,
Yup, MST3K did take on SCCtM. It makes it much more watchable. It's on their "essentials" collection with Manos: The Hands of Fate.

Eegah, Ha! Droppo becomes the model of nonviolent protest for the children of Mars!
