People often follow up outrageous euphemisms with the tag, "If you know what I mean."
Examples:
"Aaarrrr! I've buckled my share of swashes, if ya know what I mean. Har-har-har!"
"If I were in charge, I'd really lay down the law, if you know what I mean."
"I'm more of a tactile learner, if you know what I mean."
Are these things--whatever they're hinting at--only true if I "know what you mean"?
If I don't know what you mean, then do you not really mean it?
"I'm sorry. I have no idea what you're talking about."
"No? Okay. I guess I haven't buckled that many swashes, then."
