No! Sha-vu-ot! It's a Jewish holiday that celebrates the events at Mt Sinai after the exodus from Egypt. Christians tend to call it "Pentecost," a Greek-based word that points to it being celebrated 50 days after Passover.
Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Law--especially the 10 commandments--by God through Moses.
Anyway, that's holyday we celebrated last night at Vacation Bible School. Things went fairly well. I'm already thinking of ways to re-work portions of it to be more broadly age-inclusive. At least the recreation portion went well... And the snacks (Mac-n-cheese!)
Tonight, that crazy, unhinged celebration of the book of Esther known as Purim! We're starting with the crafts portion of the evening--making masks!
