More Humor in the Bible

On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. Acts 20:7-9

Lots of people fall asleep in church services. It's chuckle-worthy, but not hysterical.

Plenty of preachers are accused of preaching sermons that are too long. That's vaguely amusing.

But Paul keeps talking until midnight! This isn't just a long sermon, this is epic! He wants to get a whole week of sermons in on that one day! And then, Eutychus drifts off during the message... and falls out of the window!

Paul goes down and raises him from the dead in the next few verses, but I suspect he never lived that down. "Close the windows, everybody! Eutychus is here!"

Maybe he dished it out too. The church service runs too long: "Hey preacher, wrap it up! Are you trying to kill me?"
