Last night, early summer in central Illinois.
The hot weather is cooling into the 70's, with rain on the horizon.
It is dusk, around 8 pm, but still light enough to see well.
As the blacktop curves in between corn fields, fireflies stir from the grass:
Shimmering like living glitter catching the evening light,
Twinkling like fallen stars against the dark green cornstalk skies.

Allen, that's lovely. You should have entered my poetry contest!
Thanks for the nice moment.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, IC. I had never seen that happen before, and it was one of those great moments where everything came together just right, and I thought "Man, am I blessed!"
I couldn't come up with anything, um, appropriate for your contest. 'Can't wait to read the results.
