The Allen’s Brain Personography Quiz
Because I tend to find most question list memes a bit dull and unchallenging, here is a quiz for the weirdly creative and the creatively weird. As they say at the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation: Share and Enjoy!
*****
The Allen’s Brain Personography Quiz
1. You’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name. Finally, in a fit of boredom, you name the horse. What do you call your steed?
2. Dr Jarnikov, diabolical genius, is going to perform the classic brain swap experiment on you. Who/what is the other subject?
3. The Great Old Furry Tortoise of Wisdom grants you the answer to one question. What do you ask?
4. Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door. Build a better mouse, and...
5. There are eight entrees on the menu. How does the hydra make up its minds which to order?
6. It’s the end of the world, and you have the last pudding cup. What do you do with it?
7. Sometimes you just have to get away from the angry, pitchfork-wielding mobs. Bamboo hut in the jungle, laboratory hidden in a volcano, observatory on the ocean floor, or apartment in the sub-basement beneath the Asian food market?
8. You’ve just strolled into an ice cream parlor in the Twilight Zone. What’s the ironic problem with their frozen treats?
9. You are the comic book superpower fairy. What amazing ability do you give your enemy?
10. A box arrives at your door with a note, reading “Do not open!” What do you do?

I'd like to thank the Academy...
I’ve been awarded the Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award by nissa_loves_cats of the delightfully-named blog, The Lina Lamont Fan Club (“What’s da’ mattah wit’ my voice?)
Truthfully–and sadly–I wasn’t particularly familiar with Nissa’s blog. I think I had read a linked post, here and there, but wasn’t a regular reader. However, after browsing about, I think I’ll swing by there more often. Of course, that seems to be the dark, secret motivation of blog awards of this ilk. :-D
“Irresistibly Sweet” sounds like something that would induce nausea upon ingestion. Not sure what that implies about my blog. Additionally, Nissa comments, “The last time I passed out an award, one of my awardees... was not available to pick up his award due to being in jail for the death threats he kept making... So now I'm puzzled--- do I try to find bloggers who WON'T get arrested to award them, or should I consider it a challenge to pick another potential trouble-maker? I'm torn....” So, now I REALLY wonder what she thinks of me! Hee-hee!
So, thanks, Nissa... I think...
Anyway, the stipulations for accepting this “award” are as follows:
The Rules:
1. Thank and link to the person who nominated you.
2. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
3. Pass the award along to 8 deserving blog buddies.
4. Contact those buddies to congratulate them.

Now then, onward to the Abyss!
VII Roman, er, Random Facts About Allen’s Brain
I. I’ve quite a fondness for Hawaiian shirts and wear them over long t-shirts and sweatshirts in the winter. I have worn the same red print Hawaiian shirt the last 3 Christmases–maybe 4.
II. “I think you ought to know, I’m feeling very depressed.” Recently finished downloading the complete “Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” BBC radio programs, and am listening to them in my car. Marvin the Paranoid (and perpetually-depressed) Android, btw, is the source of that quote.
III. With a passion for strong coffee and super-spicy food, it’s a wonder I have any tastebuds or stomach left, but I do. They’re on the third shelf from the bottom, second and fifth from the right, respectively. (Okay. That last bit’s not true. It’s actually the 2nd and 6th from the right.)
IV. Just achieved gold card status on my Starbucks membership. Yay.
V. In my fantasy life, I would run a tiki-themed coffee bar called either “ExotiCafe” or “Shrunken Ed’s.”
VI. I have never been compared to a giraffe or a bowl of cereal, and I don’t particularly envy anyone who has.
VII. Perhaps it’s the mad scientist in me, but I really like a good thunderstorm: lots of forked lightning, loud crashes of thunder, and great, wet curtains of rain plummeting to earth! Muh-ha-ha-ha!
_____
I don’t think I know/read 8 bloggers that would do this sort of thing, but if you are one such, and would like to do this, then I consider you Irresistibly Sweet!

10 Things I've Been Enjoying Lately
1. Listening to episodes of the exciting old radio adventure show "Escape." (bought vol. 1 from OTRCat.com)
2. The reprieve from the intense summer heat & humidity.
3. Gardening. Anybody need green beans?
4. My new (to me) french press coffee maker--purchased at a garage sale for $1!
5. Netflix. I've been able to rent old and odd (Just watched Murnau & Flaherty's 1931 South Seas tale "Tabu." Where can I rent that in my neighborhood? I actually would recommend it, btw. Really beautiful cinematography.)
6. The positive response to my "Jesus in Jeans" sermon series.
7. Dressing-down on Sunday mornings to emphasize #6.
8. Finding pizza restaurants that serve jalapeno & anchovy as toppings.
9. The Sunday crosswords. (old habit, but still derive a thrill from the challenge)
10. The knowledge that I don't have a yard to mow.
*****
I could make this a meme, and tag people with it, I guess, but I don't think I will. If you want to share your "10 Things you've been enjopying lately," do so in the comments box, or put them on your blog/facebook/whatever and let me know. If you have things you've been enjoying lately, but can't think of 10, I'd still like to hear about them.
If you need a spiritual angle for this, call it "counting your blessings."

7 random facts about da' Brain
Having been tagged by Terry, I now relent and submit to the rules of the meme. According to his blog:
If I have tagged you, please list 7 random facts about yourself on your blog, and then tag 5 other bloggers. Here are my random facts:
1. I never remember my age. When people ask me how old I am, I ask “What year is this?” so that I can calculate it.
2. In grade school band, I was first chair trombone.
3. I’m a spelling and grammar fiend. I spent quite a bit of my time in college and grad school proofreading other students’ papers.
4. My career in professional football was cut short by my complete lack of skill at sports.
5. You know that doomsday machine that recently turned up in your neighborhood? I didn’t put it there—but it is my design. Someone stole the blueprints.
6. I just made up fact # 5.
7. I have a terrible memory for people’s names. Faces and facts about them, I can remember, but their names seem to fly right out of my head. Unfortunately, my own name is sometimes included in this.

Eight Random Facts About Meme, er, Me
Having been tagged by Her Zacred Zaniness, the Ironic Catholic, here are 8 random facts about me. I’m really not this self-involved, usually.
8. No, I’m not Jewish, actually, but thanks for asking. I much prefer that question to “When are you getting married?”, “Chasing any women lately?”, and “What are you doing with that sickle?”
7. I’m actually enjoying listening to Christmas music this year. Of course, that means cds like Arthur Lyman’s “Christmas With a Vibe” and ones with titles like “Martinis and Mistletoe” or “Christmas in Dixieland,” and of course Handel’s Messiah. I still get cringe-y and blue at most of the mainstream stuff being played on radios everywhere. How many versions of “Chestnuts Roasting” and “Silver Bells” can there be, and yet all of them sound like wet mops?
6. Despite being a fan of old movies, I’ve never seen "Casa Blanca."
5. I’m finding this list very challenging. I’m a pretty boring person.
4. I have, in my lifetime, attended private school, public school, and homeschool.
3. I can’t drive a stick. Never learned.
2. Most recent theology/devotional book I read was The Smell of Sin by Don Evert. I actually would recommend it—and it’s really short, which is good.
1. I’m one of those evil people who receive memes, fill them out, and then don’t pass them on to the requisite number of other folks. Eight others, in this case.

What Kind Of A Monster Are You?
I had always assumed that was a rhetorical question. I guess not. They got the brain part right, though!
| You Are an Alien |
![]() You're so strange, people occasionally wonder if you're from another world. You don't try to be different, but you see most things from a very unique, very offbeat perspective. Brilliant to the point of genius, you definitely have some advanced intelligence going on. No matter what circles you travel in, you always feel like a stranger. And it's a feeling you've learned to like. Your greatest power: Your superhuman brain Your greatest weakness: Your lack of empathy - you just don't get humans You play well with: Zombies |

Blogger Reflection Awards

I've been skewered by the delightful Ironic Catholic, who accurately described me as “consistently deranged.” No wait, not “skewered,” “tagged.” No, I was right the first time, actually. And I mean that in a good way (“though I’m really not into piercings,” he mumbled under his breath.)
Here's what you do if you're tapped (as in, "I tapped heem weeth my leetle hammer") for the badge at right:
1. Copy these rules.
2. Reflect on five bloggers and write a least a paragraph about each one.
3. Make sure you link to this post so others can read it and the rules.
4. Leave your chosen bloggers a comment to let them know they've been given the award.
5. Put the award icon on your site.
1. Since I didn't see a "No tag-backs" rule, The Ironic Catholic is one of the few blogs that I read regularly. The content is as smart and clever as the name. IC teaches doctrine or theology or something of the sort, and occasionally her swipes at systematic theology elude me, but usually she just cracks me up and connects with my religious sense of humor. Or is that my "humorous sense of religion"? Also, she posts comments here pretty frequently, which indicates that she reads ICFAB fairly often. Please pray for her sanity!
2. Savage Chickens, technically, is a blog. Sure, his posts are pictures of his one-frame comics drawn on post-it notes, but his commentary on life contained within is typically dead-on. Furthermore, since he doesn't write textual commentary, (except occasional responses in the comments box) he's least likely to respond to this meme.
3. Terry at A Disciple's Thoughts has an introspective and devotional bent to most of his posts. As a result of his and his wife's work with the Contact Church of Christ in Tulsa, OK, Terry has a lot to say about social issues. Additionally, he holds my feet to the fire by referring to good books and articles that I haven't read. Lastly, he's married to my old friend Janet. "Old" in this case refers to the friendship, not the friend.

4. How can I mention Terry and not mention Janet? Janet doesn't post to her blog as often as I'd wish, but she has a four-year-old at home, so that keeps her hopping. Her voice is that of the mildly-crazed that you often see in moms of toddlers and preschoolers. Her erratic prose makes me smile. Oh yes, she's married to Terry, (at number 3 on your hit parade) and is apparently a big fan of Henry Ian Cusick.
5. Joel's blog, Crummy Church Signs, must be read regularly. Otherwise, you'll swiftly get behind. As the title indicates, the blog features sayings from church marquees that are weird, contain poor spelling and grammar, and often features signs with sayings that are contrary to Scripture! CCS is worthwhile reading, especially for the long-term church member who thinks they might be losing touch with "the world" and needs a Christianese deprogramming. Oh, and it's dang funny!
*****
Well, there you have it: five blogs I read. I would have posted a brilliant, life-changing essay here, but instead I have this meme. ~sigh~

I've Been Tagged!
As Cathy once said, “Aaaack!”
I’ve had a pox laid at my doorstep (blogstep?) If you feel the need to take up the spreading of this memetic virus, consider yourself sneezed on.
The rules:
1. Players start with 8 random facts about themselves.
2. Those who are tagged should post these rules and their 8 random facts.
3. Players should tag 8 other people and notify them they have been tagged. (see my introduction)
My 8 random facts:
I. 14 EEE (the shoes)
II. A B&W photo of an Afghani rabbi at the Western Wall in Jerusalem by Sandu Mendrea (most expensive piece of art I own)
III. A rerun of “House” Tuesday night (most recent tv watched)
IV. Quiet, dull, rumpled, and a bit blurry—but really funny sometimes. (How many people would describe me. It could just as easily describe a week-old newspaper found in an alley.)
V. The Spider: Curse of the Christ Child (my latest fiction endeavor, a Christmas story about a pulp hero called the Spider. Involves nativity sets laced with deadly disease)
VI. I am racially vague, apparently. The number of times I have been asked—unsarcastically--if I’m black or biracial astounds me. For the record, generic-white-European; Scottish & English, mostly.
VII. New nephew, born Aug 3rd. Jaxon Douglas Davis (Latest big news in my life)
VIII. No, really! April 1st! (my birthday)
Swing by Janet’s blog and say hi. ‘Twas she who tagged me.

What color is Allen's Brain?
| Allen's Brain is Purple |
![]() Of all the brain types, Allen's is the most idealistic. He tends to think wild, amazing thoughts. His dreams and fantasies are intense. His thoughts are creative, inventive, and without boundaries. He tends to spend a lot of time thinking of fictional people and places -- or a very different life for himself. He is probably dangerously radioactive and should be approached with caution. |
